Expert Geophysics Limited has been granted U.S. Patent No. 12,717,056 B2, titled โGeophysical Surveying Apparatus, System and Method.โ
The invention combines airborne time-domain electromagnetic measurements and high frequencies of natural-field electromagnetic measurements within a single survey. It uses airborne and ground reference recordings, extracting natural-field signals from the intervals between transmitter pulses to reduce interference from the controlled EM fields.
The two methods provide complementary information: time-domain EM helps detect and characterize conductive targets, while natural-field EM can reveal the broader resistivity distribution and geological structures surrounding them. Moreover, natural-field data can support the interpretation of time-domain responses in areas affected by strong parasitic induced polarization (IP) effects or superparamagnetic (SPM) anomalies, helping distinguish subsurface conductivity features from these complicating responses.
Bringing these measurements together supports a more complete understanding of exploration targets and their geological setting within one survey operation.
This patent marks an important milestone in our continued development of airborne technologies that help turn geophysical measurements into useful exploration insight.
Congratulations to the inventors, Andrei Bagrianski, Alexander Prikhodko, Mikhail Kuzmin and Petr Kuzmin, and to the team supporting this work.
